This resonates with her because she had faced the same neglect. Takei helps Kotaro overcome it but also understands his point of view that it is the last thing left of his mother. WebKotoro's mom comes off as the worse character since we don't see any good flashbacks of her. It seems she has some sort of depression and isn't neglectful because she's just a bad person.
