The term IBD was coined to cover two specific diseases: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Relative risks for the mental disorders preceding IBD suggest that any role of the first in the aetiology of the second is small. However, risk of depression or anxiety is high during the year after diagnosis of IBD.
